birthing, like most of the swans discography is a pretty drawn out experience. this album has a more frantic feel than the other swans albums i've listened to, like something trying to break free. the first song on the album, "the healers" starts out slow, but throughout the song it gradually builds and builds, ending with a crescendo into booming, messy instrumentals that makes the next song hit even harder. this album - and in general, most swans albums - has incredibly good dynamics and variation within the intstrumentals.
