there are many ways i could describe this album, but i'll describe it how i feel best does it justice. oppressive. PCIAGI makes use of loud, repetitive, lumbering instrumentals that fully encompass me in the sound. when listening to this album, i found it hard to think about anything else. it has an extraordinarily trance-like quality that makes me feel like the very depths of my mind have been filled with drums and screams. this album, like most of the swans discography that i've listened to, has a very religious feel to it, which certainly is in part due to the opening track "money is flesh" ending with a several minute long section of Michael Gira screaming "HOLY" over and over, but to me the main source of religious vibes for PCIAGI is the somber instrumentals. public castration is a good idea by swans is an incredible album, and it truly solidified swans as one of my favourite bands.
